Given an Ubuntu 18.04.2LTS on a desktop laptop (not headless) which have not been restarted since no less than months.
Entry is simply doable by way of some distant desktop connection (like vnc) and SSH.
Now the rdp connection was defective, and I made a decision to (not so properly) restarting the gdm3:
service gdm3 restart
However after this command, rdp will not be working in any respect, it appears the GUI will not be operating.
I’ve no bodily entry to the pc, and rebooting can also be not doable remotely.
How can I correctly (re)begin Ubuntu 18.04’s default GUI from distant SSH with out restarting the pc?
It might be even higher to restart the GUI “on the login immediate”: power logging out all customers, and begin as recent as a clear startup would do.
Please observe I’ve already activated Xorg as an alternative of Wayland very long time in the past by this:
[daemon]
# Uncoment the road beneath to power the login display screen to make use of Xorg
WaylandEnable=false
